Message from Chairman Brian Armstrong

The Mirror European Championships takes place in Gottskar, Sweden next summer from the 4th  to the 9th August 2008. It is preceded by the Swedish National Championships from the 1st to the 3rd August and this is open to visitors also.

The event website is http://mirror.sskaparen.se/ and contains full details. Gottskar is near Gothenburg and sailing takes place on the sea. The event is an open one so no qualification is necessary.

The IMCAI has negotiated the rental (with driver) of a boat carrier which can hold a maximum of 13 boats. The cost inclusive of transport insurance is €670 per boat. The places on the carrier are being offered on a “first come first served” basis. Those interested in making the journey should contact Gavin Vaughan as soon as possible to reserve a place. They will be asked to pay a deposit of €200 and the balance will be payable by the end of June.

The hire of the trailer is a heavy commitment for the Association and members need to commit to a place as soon as they can and before the 31st December next . If there is insufficient take up consideration may have to be given to cancellation and it is necessary to eliminate this possibility as soon as possible by having sufficient confirmed bookings. This will enable people to proceed with booking accommodation and flights.

The Irish 2008 programme has been arranged to avoid clashes with the Europeans. Those of us who made the journey to the World Championships in Ostersund in Northern Sweden found it a most rewarding and enjoyable experience and holiday. Participation in major events such as this contributes very considerably to the development of any young sailor and anyone who can possibly go is urged to do so.
